ESRI Canada and Geosoft Collaborate to deliver a Global Solution for Mining and Geosciences

Toronto, ON - ESRI, a leading geographic information system (GIS) software provider, and Geosoft Incorporated, a leading provider of software and solutions for the geosciences industry, were selected by Teck Cominco Ltd. to deliver an integrated software and data management solution for earth exploration. The announcement was made at the annual convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada ( PDAC), being held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, March 4-7, 2007.

"This effort, based on collaborative expertise, complimentary know-how, and strong innovation, aims to provide Teck Cominco Ltd. with a scalable and interoperable software platform and framework with which geoscientific data will be used to successfully explore and discover the earth," said Alex Miller, President, ESRI Canada.

Teck Cominco Ltd, a world leader in the production of zinc and metallurgical coal, has become the first mining company to adopt the collaborative solution.

"We selected Geosoft and ESRI technology because we saw a strong fit with our need to establish a solid data foundation, and company-wide standards for our exploration systems," said Bob Holroyd, Director of Global Exploration Technology for Teck Cominco. "The interoperability of all our exploration software platforms is absolutely critical, and ESRI's ArcGIS system together with Geosoft's DAP data server technology, Target and Oasis montaj applications, gives us everything we need within one solution."

"With record growth within the mining and geoscience sector, we've seen increased customer demand for global solutions that can scale to their requirement for sharing and integrating vast amounts of data," said Tim Dobush, CEO of Geosoft. "We are pleased to be partnering with ESRI in the delivery of integrated solutions that will increase efficiency as well as discovery potential."

The joint solution leverages ESRI's GIS technology, which simplifies the acquisition, visualization, and analysis of geoscientific information and Geosoft's robust workflows. Geoscientists will benefit from having access to advanced tools to conduct geospatial analysis and support their decisions.

"When we looked at how we use and extract value from our geochemical, geophysical, and geological exploration data, we recognized that technology had revolutionized every aspect of how we collect, analyze, and share our data for the purpose of exploration and finding new discoveries," said Paul Roberts, Senior Project Geologist, Teck Cominco. "Based on our understanding of how the data fits within our workflow, we see tremendous advantage in having a global solution that makes it possible for us to efficiently manage and direct the flow of data to our geolo gists when and where needed."
