Introduction to Image Analysis *NEW*

This exercise introduces the very basics of visual image analysis of land cover and land use detection using Landsat imagery. Landsat imagery contains a wealth of information concerning the spectral signature of land and water features on the surface of the earth. Landsat satellite sensors record images that are specific to individual bands (i.e., ranges) of the electromagnetic spectrum. Using a GIS, these individual image bands can be combined and displayed to reveal patterns that cannot be detected with an unaided human eye.

Note: ArcView 9.1 or 9.2 and ArcCanada 3.1 data is required to complete this lesson. This lesson can be extended with data from ATLAS Ontario (optional).
