Description
Leamington is located in the southeast corner of Essex County, Ontario.  The area has a long and diverse settlement history, stretching back to the early 1800s.  By the 1850s the present lands of the National Park were used as a Military Reserve.

In the early 1900s the wetlands in the center of the study area were dyked and drained for agriculture, isolating the park from its natural watershed creating a large habitat.  Repetitive flooding hazards, severe shoreline erosion rates, and a series of resource management conflicts led to a comprehensive multi-disciplinary investigation to develop a series of long-term sustainable management strategies for the study area.
