Description
The metropolis of Montreal has been set apart at the international level for its exceptional quality of life given to its citizens. Therefore, the City of Montreal chose to make this concern the core of its focus. In October 2003, with the statement of principles, the sustainable development has become "The Choice of Montreal". This declaration places the protection of the natural heritage as one of the important elements. Therefore, in the fall of 2004, Montreal is preparing to adopt a policy for the protection and enhancement of their natural area. This policy is guided by the concern to protect and improve the biodiversity found on the island of Montreal, which will in turn improve the quality of life as well as the City's attraction.

In this policy of protection and enhancement of natural area, the city of Montreal will intervene in each sector with a great ecological value such as: ecoterritories (areas with large biodiversity with more than 15 hectares), ecologic aquatic areas as well as natural areas found in certain parks. These intervention sectors are illustrated on the map.
