Description
The Whitefeather Forest Initiative is a major land-based community economic renewal and resource stewardship initiative (1.3 million hectares) of Pikangikum First Nation, www.whitefeatherforest.com. Indigenous Knowledge is an integral part of the Community-Based Land Use Planning process associated with the Initiative. The ecological and cultural rationale behind it is simple: Pikangikum people are the keepers of an expansive place-based Indigenous Knowledge tradition that has great potential value to support and guide new economic opportunities for the First Nation. This knowledge tradition also has great value to support building consensus on approaches to resource stewardship and protection supporting the Whitefeather Forest Initiative.
