Integrating GIS and GPSIn this lesson students are introduced to the basics of global positioning systems. They will collect a series of latitude and longitude points and then add then into an existing digital map. It is important to keep in mind how this kind of activity can be regenerated with your students in any setting. Skills in data collection, GPS reading, and observation will be gained in this activity. The activity also has the students acquire digital photos and hyperlink them in ArcView to create a complete project. It is important that the students have an understanding of global positioning systems before they start this exercise. It is assumed that the GPS units have been initialized and are ready for use.
