Migrating From ArcView 3.x to ArcView 9.x

As GIS software evolves and becomes more extensible, it affects how you make decisions and how you do your work. ESRI has introduced a unified suite of GIS software products called ArcGIS, which includes ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo. Because every aspect of ArcGIS is fully integrated, as you learn ArcView, you are also learning ArcEditor and ArcInfo.

Not only does ArcView 9.x look different from ArcView 3.x, it also feels different. In some ways it behaves differently too. But you will also see many similarities between the two products, and you will be applying the same GIS concepts that you learned with ArcView 3.x. Most importantly, ArcView 9.x can easily handle your GIS database, and allows you to work with the same shapefiles you used in ArcView 3.x.

This lesson prepares you for the transitioning to ArcView 9.x and illustrates the differences between ArcView 3.x and ArcView 9.x.

ArcCanada 3.1 is required to complete this lesson.
