Acid Rain

The industrial age has had many impacts on the environment. One of those impacts is acid rain, which results from the reaction between certain pollutants and the water in the clouds.

This activity has the students use some of the files on the ArcCanada CD-ROM which include environmental and population statistics. The activity has the following goals:

  1. To help students gain confidence with ArcView
  2. To explore the ArcCanada CD-ROM
  3. To investigate the causes of acid rain
  4. To investigate the effects of acid rain on the environment
  5. To investigate how acid rain affects human populations.

Through this exercise, students will learn:

  • some facts about acid rain.
  • affect of acid rain in Canada.
  • how to manipulate maps and the data associated with it
  • how to use an external database file in ArcView
