Acid Rain

The industrial age has had many impacts on the environment. One of those impacts is acid rain, which results from the reaction between certain pollutants and the water in the clouds. In this exercise, we will investigate:

This activity has the students use some of the files on the ArcCanada CD-ROM which include environmental and population statistics. The activity has the following goals:

  • To help students gain confidence with ArcView
  • To explore the ArcCanada CD-ROM
  • To investigate the causes of acid rain
  • To investigate the effects of acid rain on the environment
  • To investigate how acid rain affects human populations.

Through this exercise, you will:

  • Learn what acid rain is.
  • Learn how acid rain affects Canada.
  • Learn how to manipulate Views and Themes
  • Learn how to create a map using an external database file
  • Create a Layout.
