Vancouver, BC - The Yukon Territorial Government's Energy, Mines and Resources department , was recently presented with an Award of Excellence at ESRI Canada's 2005 Regional User Conference in Vancouver. Alex Miller, President of ESRI Canada, presented the Award in recognition of their use of GIS for integrating multiple sources of geographic data and making it available to staff and the public. Ross McLachlan, Acting Director, Corporate Services, Energy, Mines and Resources, Yukon Territorial Government, was on hand to receive the award.
The Yukon Territorial Government's Energy, Mines and Resources department 's core business is managing the territories' mineral, forest, land, and oil and gas resources and administering the various leases and licenses that are required to access these resources. The Energy, Mines and Resources department worked with other Yukon Territorial Government departments to collect and manage their data in one location that is accessible to all the departments and to the public. "Each year we like to honour one of our many deserving clients with an Award of Excellence," said Mr. Miller. "This year we have chosen to recognize the Yukon Territorial Government because they have not only maximized the use of GIS in Yukon but have demonstrated amazing success in having disparate departments working together and successfully uniting their spatial information into a single, readily accessible database for both the public and for internal use." The data is accessible through a number of web-mapping sites that support the work of industry and various activities of interest to the public such as environmental assessment and land use planning. Internal to the government, the land managers have a comprehensive view of all the activities on the land and can make decisions faster and with greater confidence. About ESRI Canada: Media Contacts:
