| Welcome to the ESRI Canada Schools and Libraries Program website!
This site has been designed as a resource for educators using geographic information systems (GIS) in their classrooms. GIS is a tool that uses the power of the computer to pose and answer geographic questions by arranging and displaying data about places on the planet in a variety of ways: maps, charts, and tables.
Geographic inquiry and GIS are important in assisting educators, students, and their institutions to answer personal and community questions with local to global implications and to understand phenomena in our constantly changing world.
Better Students
GIS in the classroom helps foster critical thinking and problem solving, spatial awareness, 21st century workforce skills, and citizenship and community participation among young people and educators.
Better Schools
GIS in school administration improves planning and decision making in areas including school enrolment, demographic mapping, student transportation, school safety, and community information access.
