GIS for Canada
Data and geographic information used for planning, emergency management, environmental management, infrastructure management, and many other applications come from a wide variety of sources. Government agencies invest in the collection, management, and maintenance of geospatial data. GIS for Canada is a vision for how city, county, regional, provincial, aboriginal, and national governments, organizations, and others can work together to collect and share geographic information for the entire country. The poster includes several themes of data that need to be vertically integrated to support many of the applications of the Canadian user community. The themes described include emergency operations, utilities, transportation, hydrography, and environmental to name a few. Each theme is represented at different scale of use; the poster shows the data at the provincial, regional, city, and neighbourhood levels. In addition, some guidelines and geographic datasets are included to reflect the information needs for each data theme.
