Calgary, AB - Talisman Energy Inc. was recently presented with an Award of Excellence at ESRI Canada's 11th annual ESRI Regional User Conference in Calgary. Alex Miller, President of ESRI Canada, presented the Award in recognition of Talisman Energy's innovative application of server-based mapping technology. More than 400 GIS professionals were on hand for the presentation, which was one of the highlights of the conference.
"The Award of Excellence was presented to a very deserving organization that is dedicated to the development and implementation of server-based GIS within the organization's various business units," said Mr. Miller. "Their enterprise GIS work is leading edge and their efforts in consolidating and sharing data within the organization sets an example for other exploration and production companies to follow suit and utilize this dynamic business model." Talisman Energy Inc. is an independent oil and gas producer, established in 1992, with global operations. This web-based application was built using ArcGIS Server 9.1 and was completed in late 2006. The application is used for decision support and data dissemination and modeling for exploration and production business. Talisman compiles data from various sources and this data is managed, processed, and analyzed using GIS before being corporately distributed. Various GIS initiatives have been successfully implemented for various business system applications including general mapping, emergency response planning, subsurface mineral rights mapping, exploration mapping, and commitment and sensitivity tracking.
