GIS Portal Toolkit version 3.0 includes improved installation and configuration, better metadata management and access control, and integration with ArcGIS Desktop.

Users' roles in the GIS Portal Toolkit define what functions can be performed, and enhancements by role include the following:

All Users

  • Use of a thesaurus (Oracle database only) when searching for metadata or when creating metadata using the online form
  • Map Viewer
    • Added support for Styled Layer Descriptor (SLD) for Web Map Services (WMS)
    • Allow user to set symbology for Web Feature Services (WFS)
    • Integrated ArcIMS Data Delivery Extension (DDE) to allow user to download data from a predefined DDE server

Registered Users and Publishers

  • Update user profile and contact information
  • Change password

Publishers

  • Register one or more metadata repositories for harvesting
  • Create metadata records for WMS, WFS, and Web Coverage Services (WCS) using information obtained from a GetCapabilities request
  • Control access to published metadata by user groups

Channel Stewards

  • Simplified Channel Editor user interface
