Geodatabase Toolset (GDBT)

The Geodatabase Toolset (GDBT) is a collection of system analysis tools and functions that can help investigate a geodatabase and diagnose some performance issues, such as display problems, in scalable geodatabases. It can be used to help better manage all geodatabases using ArcSDE technology: enterprise, workgroup, and personal. It also provides the ability to generate descriptive reports based on the analysis results. The reports can be exported to external files for archive purposes, sent to technical support, and so forth.

The tools are designed to work in both the ArcCatalog and ArcMap applications of the ArcGIS Desktop products (ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo). In ArcCatalog, a new tab labeled GDBT has been added. Its functionality is activated when a scalable geodatabase (or connection to one) is selected in the Catalog Tree. In ArcMap, a new GDBT toolbar and dockable window have been added to the interface. They provide access to numerous diagnostic performance tools.

GDBT diagnostic tools include:

  • Editing information
  • DBMS statistics
  • User information
  • Versioning lineage information in a state tree diagram
  • Spatial index information
  • Displaying versions in the geodatabase in a hierarchical tree view structure
  • Relative data fetch timer
  • Refresh data timer (per layer)
  • Ability to start and stop DBMS tracking
  • Scripting functionality
