Toronto, ON - The Town of Richmond Hill was presented with an Award of Excellence at the ESRI Canada's Regional User Conference in Toronto. Alex Miller, President of ESRI Canada, presented the Award in recognition of the Town's initiative to implement a GIS Portal at the municipal level. More than 400 GIS professionals were on hand for the presentation, which was one of the highlights of the conference.
"The Award of Excellence is going to a very progressive municipality that is dedicated to the advancement of GIS within the government through the development of applications and data to support Town services," said Mr. Miller. "The Town of Richmond Hill is the first municipality in Canada to implement ESRI's GIS Portal Toolkit and has shown leadership in applying GIS technology."
Richmond Hill's GIS Portal (RHgeoPortal) provides staff with search, mapping, metadata management capabilities, and access to land related information through the Town's Intranet. Staff saves time and money as they can quickly access the most relevant data to support their day-to-day operations such as planning and development, and engineering and public works services.

"Our GIS team has spent considerable effort in collecting and maintaining metadata for our geospatial data and land related information. The GIS Portal is enabling us to take full advantage of this by improving the services we deliver to other departments and the public. The portal has become an integral part of our evolving Municipal Geospatial Data Infrastructure and has a significant role to play in our future Enterprise Content Management System."
