Toronto,ON - MAPmedia Corporation was presented with an Award of Excellence at ESRI Canada's Regional User Conference in Toronto today. Alex Miller, President of ESRI Canada, presented the Award in recognition of MAPmedia's efforts in migrating their map production technology to ArcGIS. More than 400 GIS professionals were on hand for the presentation, which was one of the highlights of the conference.
MAPmedia Corp. is Canada's largest producer of retail city and road mapping. Since the company's inception in the late 1970s, they have been dedicated to producing high quality, detailed, and well designed maps. The MAPmedia team is comprised of some of the best cartographers, graphic designers, and GIS specialists in the industry and maintains the highest standards of cartographic design.
"The Award of Excellence is going to a team who are producing maps in an efficient and cost effective way allowing them to improve their production of standard and custom map products," said Mr. Miller. "They have established a process that has allowed them to improve the production of maps including the labelling of map products, enabling the use of data for many projects, and the use of consistent symbology throughout their products."
By leveraging the power of the ArcGIS Desktop suite they are able to consolidate and enhance their source data allowing MAPmedia to produce maps more effectively across multiple products. This improves their production process as well as increases map product consistency and quality. For each product cycle there are many cartographers and GIS specialists involved in the production, all of whom need to be able to access data at the same time. MAPmedia introduced ArcSDE to manage multi-user editing and data management. They are also using the ArcGIS Desktop products and extensions including Maplex for ArcGIS, ArcGIS 3D Analyst, and Data Interoperability for ArcGIS.
"We are a beta test site for the ArcGIS 9.2 desktop products and are very excited about the new cartographic tools available for our production work," said Brent Carey, Director of GIS, MAPmedia. "We are happy with the ESRI technology suite and look forward to continuing to use the technology."
MAPmedia is now able to produce atlas and foldout map products for all major markets in Canada that are higher quality, more current, and more consistent than in the past. The process has created an environment that allows MAPmedia greater flexibility in repurposing data for other electronic products, the Internet, and other high-quality print products.
