PowerStream selects ESRI Canada's network management solution

Toronto, Ontario - PowerStream has selected ESRI Canada to implement a single GIS platform to replace its existing legacy applications.

Miner & Miner's ArcFM solution which is an extension to ArcGIS will be used to help manage the utility's distribution network and support the company's long-term information strategies. First Base Solutions will provide data conversion services from three different sources.

PowerStream is the fourth largest local electricity distribution company in Ontario, delivering power to more than 215,000 residential and business customers in the municipalities of Aurora, Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan.

"I am extremely excited that PowerStream has selected ArcGIS as their GIS platform," said Alex Miller, President, ESRI Canada. "The selection of our solution is a positive indication that utilities understand the potential for supporting their business operations using a single integrated architecture based on ESRI and Miner & Miner technology. GIS offers distribution organizations a method of quickly accessing and producing maps, leveraging database information, and automating work processes."

ArcGIS provides a robust out-of-the-box solution for many of the utility's mapping, asset tracking and day-to-day operational needs. The system is designed to be scalable, allowing for future growth and access to information throughout the organization. The ESRI Canada solution offers benefits to PowerStream including support for multiple users to maintain data and improved graphical display of their data.

"PowerStream views GIS as a key technology for information management," said Kris Philpott, GIS Supervisor, PowerStream. "GIS will play a critical role in supporting several business units and our ability to improve customer service. By integrating ArcGIS into our corporate systems we will streamline daily workflow, improve decision making and collaborative efforts for sound business management."
