City of Lethbridge receives Award for Enterprise GIS

Calgary, AB - The City of Lethbridge was presented with an Award of Excellence at ESRI Canada's eighth annual ESRI Regional User Conference in Calgary today. Alex Miller, President of ESRI Canada, presented the Award in recognition of the City of Lethbridge's efforts in creating an integrated enterprise wide information system. More than 300 GIS professionals were on hand for the presentation, which was one of the highlights of the conference.

"The Award of Excellence is going to a deserving organization that is dedicated to improving customer service through the development and distribution of data and mapping services," said Mr. Miller. "Their work is progressive and their effort in centralizing and sharing data throughout the City sets an example for other local governments across Canada - I applaud their efforts."

The City of Lethbridge is the hub of southern Alberta. Great weather and a sound economic base make Lethbridge one of the best places in Alberta to live. While Lethbridge has small town feel it has all the infrastructure and services of any large city. To help manage and facilitate the City's services the Information Technology Department has integrated the ArcGIS suite of software into the City's business applications. ArcGIS allows business units throughout the enterprise to deliver their services in an effective and efficient manner.

The City's enterprise system is geared to provide easy access to information to support many roles in the organization. While versions of the system are available universally, it is tailored to address the business needs of different departments. The Assessment and Taxation business unit use the system in conjunction with property assessment evaluation and public consultation, while the Development Services business unit uses the same system to manage current land use classification as well as a decision support tool for future growth and planning.
