Infonaut and Kingston Public Health to Build Real-Time GIS Syndromic Surveillance System

Ottawa, ON - Infonaut and Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington Public Health (KFLA PH) were recently awarded significant funding by GeoConnections for the creation of a Geospatial Decision Support - Syndromic Surveillance system.  Syndromic surveillance" applies to surveillance using health-related data that precede diagnosis and signal a sufficient probability of a case or an outbreak to warrant further public health response.
This system will use real-time, anonymized respiratory and gastrointestinal data gathered from at least 7 area hospitals to aid in the prompt detection of related diseases in an effort to improve the sharing of information and enhance communication between the community, professional end-users and decision makers.

St-Hubert Bar-B-Q Ltd. Selects DMTI Spatial and ESRI Canada to Streamline Order Management and Improve Call Center Customer Service

Markham, ON - DMTI Spatial, a leading provider of Enterprise location intelligence, has been selected by St-Hubert Bar-B-Q Ltd., a major restaurant chain based in Québec, to coordinate and optimize its order management system located in Montreal for home delivery from the company's 100 restaurants located in Québec, Ontario and New Brunswick.  Each year the company receives close to 2 million calls.  Using DMTI's CanMapT Street Files and postal code products utilizing ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Desktop software from ESRI Canada, customer service agents at St-Hubert's call center can pinpoint the exact location of a customer and immediately send their order to the restaurant closest to them.  Additionally, the same application is used to located customers using the web site to order from the restaurant online.

2006 Census Release Reveals Continued Aging of Canada's Population

Toronto, ON - New results from the 2006 Census reveal the continued ageing of Canada's population, according to an Environics Analytics analysis of just released data from Statistics Canada. In 2006, one in seven Canadians (13.7%) was over the age of 65 while 17.7% were under the age of 15. By comparison, 50 years ago less than one in ten Canadians (7.7%) were over 65 years old and nearly one third of the population (32.5%) was under 15.
